Abstract
An ammoniacal refrigerating agent contains an inhibiting mixture consisting of (1) an aliphatic amine containing 12 to 20 C atoms in a straight chain, (2) a salt of the amine as emulsifier, (3) dicyclohexyl-amine or a salt of and (4) at least one of an inorganic nitrite, nitrate, or chromate. The inhibitor forms a film on the metal surface which retards the corrosive action of ammonia on aluminium structures both in the liquid or gaseous state. In examples, a solution containing octadecylamine or dodecyl amine and its acetate together with dicyclohexylamine nitrite, sodium nitrite and sodium chromate is saturated with gaseous ammonia and hydrogen, until the ammonia content is 30%.ALSO:Aluminium refrigeration machines, in which ammoniacal coolants are used, are protected against corrosion by adding an inhibiting mixture consisting of (1) an aliphatic amine containing 12 to 20 C atoms in a straight chain, (2) a salt of the amine as emulsifier, (3) dicyclohexylamine or a salt of, and (4) at least one of an inorganic nitrate, nitrite, or chromate. The inhibitor forms a film on the metal surface which retards the corrosive action of ammonia both in the liquid and gaseous phase. In examples, a solution containing octadecylamine or dodecylamine and its acetate, together with dicyclohexylamine nitrite, sodium nitrite, and sodium chromate, is saturated with gaseous ammonia and hydrogen, giving an ammonia content of 30%.
