Abstract

1,036,108. Refrigerators. E.M.I. ASTRAL Ltd. Oct. 24, 1962 [Oct. 24, 1961], No. 38023/61. Heading F4H. [Also in Division E2] The door 10 of a freezing compartment 11 in a refrigerator is biased towards its closed position by a spring having a straight portion 14 which is flexed in torsion when the door is opened the spring acting as the pivot about which the door hinges. The ends of the spring are secured to hinge blocks 21, 22 integral with the door and an intermediate loop portion 16 of the spring abuts against a wall of the freezing compartment 11. That end of the spring secured to the block 22 is so bent with respect to the loop portion 16 that a torque is applied to the spring when the door is in the closed position. In an embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the door is hollow and the spring is mounted therein, the ends of the spring being fixed to the freezing compartment walls with the loop portion 16 abutting the door.
