Abstract

1,107,322. Spring hinges; sliding bolts; multiple fastenings. BOFORS A.B. 19 March, 1965 [20 March, 1964], No. 11812/65. Headings E2A and E2F. The door 3, e.g. to the port of a military vehicle, is hinged to the, as shown, horizontal wall 1 surrounding the port by levers 4, 4'; 5, 5', the ends of the levers pivoted to the door each being secured to one end of a torsion rod 10, 10'; 11, 11', the other end of each torsion rod being secured to the door, as at 16, in bearing blocks 18, 18'; (19), 19'. In opening the door, the levers articulate through 180‹ until the door is again flush with the wall 1. The torsion rods are unstressed when the levers are vertical and bias the door towards this position when displaced, thus counteract ing the large weight of the door to ease open- and closing. As shown, all levers are of an equal length, but pair 4, 4' may be of different length to pair 5, 5' so that the door may be rotated as well as translated during opening so that the door may abut an inclined part of the wall when opened. The door may be provided with locking means (Figure 3) consisting of plates 22, 22' attached to levers 5, 5' and having apertures e.g. 20, 21; 20', 21' engageable by bolts 23, 23' by rotation of handle 25, when the door is in certain positions as defined by the apertures.
