Abstract
1,033,454. Lubricating. IMPACO TRUST REG. March 3, 1965 [March 11, 1964], No. 9160/65. Heading F2A. [Also in Division F1] In a rotary-piston compressor comprising an eccentric 3 (Figs. 1, 4, not shown) carrying a piston 8, oil to effect sealing and lubrication is fed from a reservoir 21 through a wick 17 into an air stream in a conduit or channel 16 connected at one end to a chamber 19, which is adjacent a rockable guide-member 12 for a sliding-rocking vane 11 attached to the piston, through an outlet 15 containing a non-return valve and at the other end to a pipe 161 coupled to axial and radial passages 18, 21 in the guidemember, the air stream being established by the pumping action of the vane when the compressor is in operation. Atmospheric air is drawn into the chamber 19 through an intake 34 containing a non-return valve, and the intake may be connected to an air filter 33 (Fig. 3, not shown) for the main intake opening 13 of the compressor. The vane 11 may be provided with grooves 22 (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) in its end faces through which oil flows directly from the chamber 19 to annular grooves 23 in the end faces of the piston. Alternatively, oil is delivered to the grooves 22 from the chamber 19 through channels 24, 25 in the casing and ducts 26 in the vane, wicks 17 being extended from the reservoir 21 to the channels 24, 25, instead of the wick arrangement according to Figs. 1 and 4. Non-return valves 20, 27 prevent air being drawn into the chamber 19 through the wicks instead of the intake 34. Air conveying the oil through the grooves 22, 23 escapes into the working spaces of the compressor. In a further modification (Fig. 7, not shown), the wick 17 projects into the intake 34 externally of a non- return valve 20 therein, non-return valves being lodged in the grooves 22 adjacent the chamber 19.
