Abstract

1,033,183. Surgical pads. SCHOLL MFG. CO. Ltd. Jun. 12, 1963 [Jun. 13, 1962], No. 23452/63. Heading A5R. A surgical pad for corns or bunions, comprising cushioning and covering layers secured together, has the outer covering layer extending over the affliction-receiving opening which is formed in the other layers, and deformed to a domed shape where it overlies the opening. In addition, at least part of the cushioning pad projects outwardly from the foot further than the surface of the domed portion. In the case of a bunion pad cushioning may be provided by a complete annulus of foam plastic material 2 and an arcuate layer 3 of similar material, of tapering thickness. These are sealed between film layers 1, 4, the former being apertured to provide the affliction-receiving opening 5 while the layer 4 extends over the whole surface of the pad but is deformed to a domed shape 8 where it overlies the opening 5. A toe loop 9 may be incorporated in the construction.
