Abstract

1,033,135. Closuring containers. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Oct. 2, 1964 [Feb. 5, 1964], No. 4948/64. Heading B8T. A closing head for securing a closure cap on to a container mouth is connectable with actuating means operable to effect axial movement of the head relative to a stationary container 3 with a cap 5 loosely applied, the head during axial movement effecting mechanical engagement of the cap skirt 8 with the exterior of the container mouth and deforming the flat crown into a panelled depression 13 of lesser diameter than the internal diameter of the mouth rim. The closing head, which comprises a hollow housing below which is connected a sleeve 6 terminating in a ring 7, is moved downwardly and a cap crown deforming member 9 in the sleeve moves with it until a rib 10 on the member 9 engages the flat crown and deforms it to form the depression 13 whose depth is determined by a stop face 14 on the member 9. On further downward movement of the head a tapered portion 15 of the ring 7 causes contiguous portions of the curl 23 of the cap skirt respectively to be compressed against and engaged under multi-start screw-threads emanating from an annular bead 21 on the container mouth.
