Abstract

1,032,919. Overbed tables. EVERED & CO. Ltd. Dec. 7, 1964 [Nov. 23, 1963], No. 46348/63. Heading A4H. An overbed table comprises a top 22 supported in cantilever fashion by an extensible pillar 2 in which inner and outer telescoping tubes 34 are locked in any one of a number of predetermined positions by the engagement in one of a series of spaced apertures 14a in a bar 14, secured to the inner tube 3, of a projection 17 on an operating member 16 the upper end of which carries a rod 19 rockable by a handle 20 in slots 21 at the top of the outer tube 4. An extension 15 secured to the upper part of the outer tube 4 extends within the inner tube as a U-section housing for the operating member and carries a leaf spring 18 urging the projection into engagement with a selected aperture. Opposite ends of leaf springs 24 are secured to the base of the extension 15 and to reels 23 mounted on the inner tube to counterbalance the weight of the outer tube. The table top 22 secured to the outer tube 4, retains the rod 19 in the slots 21 and stop members 28, 29 limit extension of the pillar. A beam 5 having divergent foot bars to extend under the bed is secured to the inner tube 3 and a packing piece 12 and a steel strip 13 or nylon bush secure to the outside of the inner tube retain the tubes co-axial.
