Abstract

Projectiles.-Consists in providing trench-mortar and other projectiles with one or more flat bands of leather, cardboard, papier mÔchÚ, vulcanite, or like soft materials held in place by a clamping- ring and acting both as rifling and gas-check bands. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a threeply bancl a is secured on the base of a projectile b by a clamping-flange c. A singleply band may, however, be used, and the flange c may be fastened by screws or bolts, instead of by screwing as shown. In a modification, three three-ply bands are used spaced apart by two rings of smaller diameter.
