Abstract
A false twist device, e.g. for crimping synthetic filaments, comprises a twist tube 2 or 2a (Figs. 3 and 7 not shown) which engages the inner wall of a rotatable hollow body 1 the twist tube being held against the wall by a stationary magnet 3 on its opposite side. The body is rotated by a belt engaging a whorl on its spindle. In Fig. 3 the tube which has flanges 21 is supported and axially located on rings 71 of synthetic resin mounted on the inside of the cylinder 1; alternatively there is a layer of synthetic resin on the inside of the cylinder in which case the tube has no flanges. In Fig. 7 the body 9 is funnel shaped and lined with synthetic resin and the twist tube 2a is tapered to prevent slippage. In Figs. 3 and 7 the filament to be treated passes downwardly, via a guide, through the twist tube and then through the hollow driving shaft of the body. In all forms the rotating body may drive more than one twist tube. The tubes are preferably of steel lined with a plastics material.
