Abstract
1,031,529. R.F. couplings. ELECTROLUX A.B. March 27, 1963 [March 27, 1962], No. 12116/63. Heading H4A. [Also in Division H1] In a microwave oven power is fed from a magnetron to the oven cavity via a waveguide which incorporates a Faraday rotator whereby reflected waves from the cavity are prevented from reaching the magnetron. In one feeding arrangement, Fig. 1, the waves from the magnetron are polarized as indicated at the mouth of rectangular section 2, circular section 1 encloses a ferrite rod 4 and is surrounded by a permanent magnet or a coil 5 and the polarization of the waves is rotated through 45 degrees. In an embodiment to prevent heating of the ferrite rod by oscillation in section 1 an additional and closed waveguide 8. Fig. 2, is coupled to section 1 by a slot 9, the waveguide 8 containing a wave absorber. The distance from the L.H. end of section 1 to the centre of slot 9 is made an integral number of half-wavelengths. In an alternative embodiment a wave-absorbing sheet of metal covered with a layer of graphite is placed on the centreline on either side of the ferrite rod, Fig. 3. The current to the magnetizing coil comprises an adjustable portion and at least part of the anode current of the magnetron; the same heating time for the same kind of food, independent of main voltage variation, is thereby achieved.
