Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a gyrotron which performs high output CW operation, by providing an attenuator for electromagnetic wave in an electron beam pass hole extending from an electron gun to the mutual operation area thereby weakening the energy of counter transmitting electromagnetic wave. CONSTITUTION:The electron reached to a drift tube 9 will pass through an open type resonator 11 while performing stable cyclotron motion due to the magnetic field produced by main coil 10. As an attenuator 18 Ni having high electric resistance is galvernized as shown by dashed line on the inner wall of said drift tube 9, while the graphite is coated as the absorber for the electromagnetic wave. Consequently the electromagnetic wave mode passing through the drift tube 9 is such that the high frequency current flowing through the wall face is converted to the joule heat to attenuate the energy of electromagnetic wave. As a result the energy of electromagnetic wave to be counter transmitted to the cathode 1 is considerably reduced resulting in higher output CW operation.
