Abstract

1,030,134. Cables. FURUKAWA DENKI KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Sept. 16, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 36400/63. Heading H1A . A laminated insulator 5, which is wound in open-spiral round the inner conductor 4 of an air-spaced coaxial cable, comprises a number of plastic bands, 1 each having a projection 2 and a recess 3 along their length so that they can be fitted together. Alternatively plastic bands having a projection on each side and a recess on each side may be laminated alternately. The plastic bands are made of polyethylene and in order to increase the mechanical strength of the insulator the bands may be partly welded together. Further, to improve the heat resistance of the insulator the outer layers may comprise cross-linked polyethylene. The outer conductor 6 may be extruded aluminium or copper and to increase the flexibility a corrugated tube may be used, also a holding layer of plastic tape may be welded around the insulator before the outer conductor is applied, Fig. 4, (not shown). To increase the mechanical stability of the insulator either more than one such laminated spiral is wound round the inner conductor, Fig. 3, (not shown), or the outermost plastic band is made broader than the other bands, Fig. 5, (not shown), or the bands are made broader towards the inside layer, Fig. 6, (not shown).
