1,030,040. Struts or stanchions in cargo holds. MITSUI OSK LINES Ltd., and KOBE STEEL WORKS Ltd. Oct. 26, 1964 [Oct. 26, 1963 (2)], No. 43643/64. Heading B75. A strut, e.g. for supporting cargo boards in ships' holds, comprises a lower tubular pole A and an upper tubular pole B provided with diametrically opposed openings 11, the lower end of pole B fitting into the bore of hole A, the pole B being provided with one or more brackets 5 (Figs. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, not shown) for supporting planks or boards, a coupling tube 8 fitted over the upper portion of pole A said coupling tube 8 having a threaded exterior surface 7 and slots 12, a locking pin 13 for insertion through said slots 12 and openings 11 and a nut 15 engaging surface 7 and supporting pin 13. For coarse adjustment of the height of the strut different pairs of openings 11 may be engaged by pin 13 and for fine adjustment, nut 15 may be moved up or down taking pin 13 and pole B with it.
