Abstract

Woollen material, chlorinated or non-chlorinated is printed by printing with a paste comprising at least one water soluble acid dye, and as carrier a mixture of an amide or amides of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having 8-14 carbon atoms said amide having at least one low hydroxylkyl or low alkoxyalkyl group in the primary or secondary amine from which it is formed and a sulphated surface-active organic polyglycol ether or a soluble salt thereof, the weight ratio of amide to ether being 2 : 1 to 1 : 2, the paste being applied at temperatures below the drawing temperature of the dyestuff and at a pH of at least 2, and the dye is fixed by steaming. Any acid azo dye which may be metallised may be used, the print paste may also contain conventional additives e.g. thickeners.
