Abstract

1,028,763. Refrigerators. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 26, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 7867/62. Heading F4H. In a refrigerator having freezer and storage compartments cooled by a single evaporator, an electric heater located in the storage compartment is provided for preventing the temperature in the latter from falling below a predetermined value, the control of the heater being effected by a device responsive to the temperature of the storage compartment and the arrangement being such that the heater can only be energized through the device when the compressor is de-energized. As shown in Fig. 3, the heater H is connected in series with a switch S2 responsive to the temperature of the storage compartment and the switch and heater are connected in parallel with a switch F1 responsive to freezer compartment temperature. The switch F1 controls the compressor C and the resistance of the heater H is sufficiently large to ensure that the voltage drop in the compressor motor is too small to energize the motor when the switch S2 is closed and switch F1 open and that the heater cannot be energized when switch F1 is closed. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the heater comprises an interior lamp L which is normally controlled by a door-operated switch DS and can only be energized by the switch S2 when the freezer compartment switch F2 has de-energized the compressor C.
