Abstract
The rim of an open end of a glass tube is rounded off by passing combustible gas through the tube and burning it, the burning gases being deflected so that they emerge from the tube transversely of the tube axis about the whole periphery of the rim. In the Figure, rotating drum 1 carries glass tube 7 in socket 5. At <PICT:1027957/C1/1> stations 11 and 13 gas from tubes 15 and 19 in stationary drum 17 passes through the glass tubes and the burning gases are deflected by baffles 11 and 13. The tubes may be cleared by air before or after, as through tube 31.
