Abstract

612,350. Metal-vapour lamps. ROISEUX, A. May 18, 1946, No. 15111. Convention date, May 23, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] An ultra-violet lamp containing mercury vapour comprises a quartz tube 1 with tapered ends 7, each opening into a chamber 61 of smaller diameter. Each chamber houses an electrode 3 formed of metal plates separated by layers of mineral salts. To facilitate starting, earthed metal hoods 9 enclose chambers 6<1>, held by clamping rings 10, leads 12 passing through insulators 11. Quartz blades 2 extend along the inner wall of tube 1, projecting radially towards its axis, and are stated to act as a device for automatically regulating the cross-section of the arc.
