Abstract
1,027,859. Safe load indicator for jib-cranes. SCHIFFSWERFT " NEPTUN " ROSTOCK VEB. Aug. 19, 1964, No. 33860/64. Heading B8B. In an overload prevention device for jib cranes a load cable 18 deforms a diaphragm 19 and this force is transmitted hydraulically through a conduit 3 to a cylinder 2. This produces upward movement of a piston 4 and a weight 5, which in its lower position holds a switch 14 closed by means of a pin 12. When the switch 14 is closed the luffing and hoisting winches may be operated. If a weight smaller than the safe load is lifted the weight 5 does not move. When the moment is increased by luffing the jib out, weights 8, which rest on the weight 5, are sequentially lifted by a cone 9 attached to the jib 11 by a cable 10. When the weight 4 is sufficiently unloaded by the cone 9 it moves up and breaks the control circuits of the winches. An air cushion 21 in an equalizing reservoir 20 compensates for temperature produced variations in the volume of hydraulic fluid. A solenoid valve 23 closes as soon as the crane begins to operate so that changes in pressure due to the load are not equalized.
