Abstract

1,027,689. Producing snap-acting members; cupping. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. Dec. 28, 1962, No. 48921/62. Headings B3A and B3Q. A perforated plate 7 is deformed to produce a snap-acting member by being supported at its periphery between hollow chambers 9 and 11, and being pressed downwardly against an adjustable stop 8 by means of a hydraulically pressurized diaphragm 2. The bulged face of the deformed plate is then repositioned to face upwardly and the plate again deformed in the opposite direction, the repetition serving to stabilize the plate. The member 5 in which the chamber 9 is formed is movable vertically by a fluid operated piston 25. The plates to be deformed can be of regular or irregular shape, and of a monometallic, composite, or bimetallic type.
