Abstract
1,025,488. Footbridges stepped ramps. TUBEWRIGHTS Ltd. March 12, 1965 [Jan. 10, 1964], No. 1243/64. Headings E1G and E1V. The approach ramps 15 and 14 to a footbridge 10 are formed with relatively long, concave-upwards treads 45, and risers 46 which are initially concave-outwards and then convexupwards, to facilitate the pushing of parambulabors across the bridge. The ramps 15 and 14 each comprise parallel hollow edge stringer beams spanning from the ground to an intermediate platform 16, and from the platform 16 to the columns 11 respectively, intermediate columns 18 and 19 being provided. Each tread and its lower adjacent riser are formed from a mild steel plate and this plate is welded, e.g. by spot-welding, two inch welds at four inch intervals, to the stringer beams along each edge, and to the adjacent plates at each end. Cleats 51 (Fig. 4, not shown) are provided at the ends of the stringer beams, and are not welded to the tread plates. The tread plates may be moved with a non-slip material.
