In a side-feed baling machine of the type described in the parent Specification, the pin 51, about which the resilient driving link 42 is pivoted, is longitudinally adjustable within a slot 50 in the ram extension 48. The pin 51 carries a bracket 58 through which passes a screw-threaded rod 60, mounted in fixed bracket 61, so that upon rotation of the rod the position of the pin within the slot may be adjusted, the pin being locked in the required position by a locking nut 62. With reference to Fig. 4, it can be seen that any adjustment of the pin along the ram extension when the ram 15 is in its extreme forward position (shown in phantom lines) will produce only a negligible rotation of the bell-crank 38, 36 and a consequent negligible adjustment of the extreme retracted position of the feed carriage. Said adjustment will, however, produce a considerable rotation of the bell-crank when the ram is in its extreme rearward position (shown in full lines) and thus a considerable adjustment in the extreme forward position of the carriage as shown by lines 70, 74. The depth of penetration of the carriage into the bale chamber 11 may thus be adjusted whilst the length of the only stroke over platform 20 remains substantially constant.
