Abstract

A textile oil comprises a major proportion of a mineral oil and a minor proportion of a reaction product of a C2-C4 alkylene oxide and a 2,4,6-trialkyl phenol in which the 2,6-alkyl groups contain 2-6 carbon atoms and the 4 alkyl group contains 1-6 carbon atoms, the reaction product contains an average of more than 6 but less than 10 moles of combined alkylene oxide per mole of trialkyl phenol, the combined alkylene oxide being linked to the phenolic group. The oil may contain an animal or vegetable fatty oil, e.g. olein, a stabilizer, e.g. n-butanol, butyl glycol or triethanolamine. The mineral oil may be a refined naphthenic oil having a viscosity of 50-200 S.S.U. at 100 DEG F. The oil may be mixed with up to 4 parts by weight of water.
