Abstract
A magnesium alloy contains 0.05-2% rare earth metal, 0.05-0.5% zinc and the balance magnesium, the zinc content being from 1/3 -1 of the rare earth metal content when the latter is less than 0.6% and 0.2-0.5% when the rare earth metal content is 0.6-2%. The alloy may also contain 0.02-2% manganese and not more than 0.2% zirconium.
