Abstract

A magnesium-base alloy consists of at least 85 per cent magnesium, at least 0.3 per cent soluble zirconium and barium and/or strontium together not exceeding 1 per cent but at least 0.005, the remainder, if any, being permissible alloying elements. These permissible alloying elements are defined in the Specification as elements which do not form high melting-point compounds with zirconium. They may be zinc, cadmium, rare earth metals, silver, thallium, thorium, copper, bismuth, beryllium, lead, lithium and/or calcium. The alloy should preferably be free from flux contamination and chloride inclusions. Specifications 151,137, 652,222 and 652,224 are referred to.
