Abstract

The size of a hole is measured by a pneumatic plug gauge whose back pressure is sensed electrically. As shown (Fig. 2), the apparatus comprises a constant pressure source feeding air through conduits 23, 20, 19 to an orifice 18 in an air plug gauge 17. The back pressure, indicative of the extent of obturation presented to orifice 18 by a bore 16A, displaces a brass or copper diaphragm 21 clamped round its periphery, and the movement of the diaphragm, which is indicative of the size of the bore, is sensed by an electronic probe 27 connected into a bridge circuit (not shown).
