Abstract
1,068,154. Strain gauges. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Jan. 27, 1964 [Jan.25, 1963], No. 3223/63. Heading G1N. A strain gauge comprises a vibrating ferromagnetic wire 10 in a tube 15, and an electromagnet 24 inducing vibrations therein, the ends of'the wire being clamped at 35 to threaded inserts 11, in housings 13, 14, mounted on the ends of the tube, at least one of these end housings being slidable on the tube to adjust wire tension. Bolts 18, 19 attach the gauge to the member under test and the screws 16, 17, bear against them to control the wire tension. The electromagnet assembly 24 may be permanently attached to the tube 15 by a collar 23, or may be separable from this collar. The whole gauge assembly is sealed with O-rings 37, 38, on the insert, and with 0- rings between the tube 15 and the end housings 13, 14.
