Abstract

In a tedder, of the type having a horizontal rotary tined drum 1, the drum is partly surrounded by a baffle 48 and by one or more guide-members 71 which are pivoted to the rearmost edge of the baffle so as to be adjustable in height relative to the ground. As shown, the device is trailed by a tractor 69 through a pivoted drawbar 43 and comprises a main frame composed of beams 2, 3, terminating in vertical bearings for caster-wheels 9, the wheels being vertically adjustable and the wheel-planes being fixable by means not shown. The drum is driven through a gearbox 29 connected to the tractor, the gearbox having two juxtaposed alternative input-shafts 30, 31, one of which is used to produce rotation of the drum one direction and the other produces the opposite direction of rotation at a lower speed. In the latter case the drum co-operates with the guide-member 71 which is pivoted to sector plates 51 on the sides of the baffle 48 and is lockable thereto in various positions. The drawbar is adjustable, about a vertical pivot, around an arcuate member 45 to which it can be locked, for traction in various directions. The guide members 71 have pivoted to them, about vertical pivots 77, a series of vertical screens 83 which can be locked at various orientations by pins 81 and sector-plates 79. Each screen has an extension, of rods 90, which can be slid out from the position shown in Fig. 2, by moving the plate 88, carrying the rods, outwardly of the pivot 77. In Fig. 4 there are two guidemembers 109, 110 arranged side-by-side on a tube 107 which is adjustable about its own axis by means of sector-plates 108. Each guide-member has a pair of convergent pendant plates 111, 112 on its underside and also a pair of flap-like extensions, such as 118, which are pivoted to its ends about vertical axes so that they may be closed together (e.g. 116, 117) or opened out (e.g. 118, 119). Each extension also has a pendant plate on its outer surface.
