Abstract

1,021,284. Clamps. ERMAT. June 30, 1964 [July 11, 1963], No. 27026/64. Headings E2A and E2B. A wedge action cleat device has two cooperating clamping surfaces 27, 28 at least one of which is formed on a cam member 2 or 3 pivotally mounted in a casing, the said cam member having integral therewith an elastically deformable appendage 21 or 22 engaging an inner wall portion of the casing, the arrangement being such that the appendage when deformed exerts a force on the cam member tending to rotate it about its pivot to urge the clamping surface thereon towards the other clamping surface. In the embodiment described the other clamping surface is also formed on a cam member. The cam plates 2, 3 are mounted on bosses 11, 12 projecting from the under side of the base 6 (Fig. 3, not shown) and each plate has a serrated clamping face. As a rope is pulled between the two cams they rotate away from each other but when the rope is released the edges of the cam plates engage the rope.
