Abstract
Textile materials are printed with reactive dyes by applying thickened dye paste, drying, and then spraying with a solution containing an acid binding agent or a reaction promoting agent such that the amount of solution sprayed is less than 30% by weight of the material. The colour is then developed by heat treatment. The thickened dye pastes may contain both acid binding agents and a reaction promoting agent or only one of these reagents or neither. The solution used for spraying contains reagents in the required amounts to bring about fixation of the dyestuff in the material. The reactive dyes used are water soluble, tertiary amines and hydrazines are used as reaction promoting agents. Preferably aqueous solutions of weak to strong alkaline reagents are used as acid binding agents especially alkali carbonates, borates, phosphates and hydroxides. The final heat treatment may be wet or dry.
