In a photographic transfer process, at least one of the two sheets subsequently pressed together to effect the transfer is wetted with developer liquid on the contact side by a wetted application roller. In the arrangement of Fig. 1, the exposed negative sheet 3<SP>1</SP> enters into the apparatus between guides 3, 4, is passed between rollers 9, 6, where it is wetted on one side only by roller 9 dipping into a bath 7 of developing liquid, and is guided by a wire grid 10 to the nip between pressure rollers 6, 5. Here it is brought into contact with the receiving sheet 2<SP>1</SP> which has been similarly wetted on one side only while passing between rollers 8, 5, and the transfer effected. In the modification of Fig. 4, the wetting rollers 18<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP> are spaced away from pressure rollers 6, 5, and rotate in a direction opposite to the movement of the sheets 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP>. The guiding surfaces 10, 11 are shaped so that the sheets come into contact with the wetted rollers 19<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP>. Instead of these rollers dipping into the liquid, the latter may be sprayed on to them, or passed along a hollow shaft.
