Abstract

1,019,819. Gas blast switches. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. June 4, 1964 [June 28, 1963], No. 23275/64. Heading H2B. A pair of series-connected fluid blast beakers of the puffer type project from opposite sides of a metal housing 2 mounted on an insulating column 3 and constituting the series connecting conductor for the two units. A spring-biased rod 15 passes through the column 3 transmitting a drive from suitable pneumatic, hydraulic or solenoid actuating devices in a housing 4 to a pair of parallel shafts 19, 20 by a linkage 51, 52. A further linkage 70, 72 transmits the motion to a cylinder 25 sliding over a fixed piston 27 to drive fluid across the contact structure 22 also carried by the cylinder 25 and connected to housing 2 by resilient fingers 40. Voltage equalizing impedances 10 are connected across each gap. Several pairs of breakers may be connected in series (Fig. 4, not shown). In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown), the cylinder is fixed while the piston together with contact structure 22 is moved by the linkages. The whole assembly is sealed and may be filled with SF 6 .
