A heat- and sound-insulating building element comprising for example front and back panels 1, 3 of plywood, fibreboard or asbestos cement, and core material of resin-bonded wood chips, is formed with vertical hollow spaces 4, filled, as to one half, with heavy material 6, and, as to the other, with light material 5. Alternatively the two materials may be mixed. Heavy materials include loam, clay, gravel, sand, slag, and granulated metal, and light materials, foamed resins, and other materials, e.g. foamed urea- or phenol-aldehyde resins, isocyanate or urethane polymers, polystyrene, polyvinyl formal, synthetic rubber or cellulose acetate, which may be introduced under pressure. The materials 6 may be introduced as pre-moulded bodies.
