1,018,895. Casein filaments. MILES ITALIANA DERIVOTI AMIDI-M.I.p.A. S.p.A. Oct. 10, 1962 [Oct. 18, 1961], No. 38400/62. Heading B5B. Casein is solubilized by the addition of a basic substance to its aqueous suspension and is then spun, drawn, and tanned in an aqueous bath containing 50-200 g./l. of dialdehyde starch, and 200-300 g./l. of anhydrous sodium, magnesium or aluminium sulphates or mixtures thereof. In the preparation of the casein solution, solubilization of the casein may be effected with an alkali metal hydroxide, urea or any other basic organic substance with one or more free amino groups. Drawing is suitably to a ratio of 1: 4 to 1: 6. Filaments so made are stated to have enhanced softness, tenacity and durability and an improved ratio of dry and wet tenacities.
