Abstract
Cationic dyes are prepared by reacting 4-nitrosodiphenylamine with a m-aminophenol or an N-substituted m-aminophenol in the presence of a mineral acid, optionally treating the product with a metal salt, e.g. a zinc salt. Among specific dyes described are those produced by reacting 4-nitroso-diphenyl amine with N,N-diethyl-m-amino-phenol and treating the product with zinc sulphate; 4-nitroso-diphenylamine with N-b -cyanoethyl-m-aminophenol and N-acetyl-m-aminophenol. The dyes colour polyacrylonitrile blue.ALSO:Polyacrylonitrile textile materials are dyed with a cationic dye prepared by reacting 4-nitrosodiphenylamine with a m-aminophenol or an N-substituted m-aminophenol in the presence of a mineral acid. The acid may be hydrochloric or sulphuric acid and the reaction product may be treated with a metal salt e.g. a zinc salt. The dyes are applied from aqueous solutions. The dyes yield blue shades on polyacrylonitrile and as they do not dye wool are useful for dyeing union goods. In an example polyacrylonitrile is dyed with the product obtained by reacting zinc sulphate with the dye obtained by reacting N, N-diethyl-m-aminophenol with 4-nitrosodiphenylamine. The dye is used in an aqueous bath containing ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, nonionic surface active agent and formic acid.
