Abstract

1,017,948. Railway vehicle draft gear. NATIONAL CASTINGS CO. Oct. 7, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963], No. 40894/64. Heading B7T. Draft gear 6 of the compensating type, Fig. 1, i.e. a gear having surfaces 31-34 fitting tightly between forward and rear stops 9, 8 of a draft gear pocket and also fitting tightly between internal surface 39 of the yoke and surface 42 of the coupler butt, comprises two cushioning units 15, 19, Figs. 2, 3, a casing or housing 17 for the unit 15, front and rear followers 14, 18, bolts 21, 22 between 17 and 18 limiting the distance therebetween, and side walls to the housing 17 which form the housing into box-like shape and support the housing end wall 24 at at least four points. The walls are cut away at 56, 57 to permit the bolts to slide within the housing, and the rubber-metal sandwich springs are cut away on their corners. Lugs 36, 37, Fig. 6, may be fixed to the housing, after the springs are in place to eliminate slack in the cavity between the yoke 10 and the rear end surface of the coupler 11.
