1,017,903. Closing multi-compartment skips and containers. GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO. Nov. 15, 1962 [Nov. 17, 1961], No. 43249/62. Headings B8D, B8H, B8K and B8T. Access to the inner and outer compartments of an annularly compartmented bag is through flexible sleeves 31, 32 (Fig. 6, not shown) carried by a spider 25 which has an outside ring 22 secured to the outer wall 2 (Fig. 1, not shown) of the bag and an inner tubular hub 24 connected to the inner wall 15. In the bag illustrated, which serves to contain cement 13 and wet aggregate 14 for forming concrete, the outer wall 2 is of a construction similar to that of a vehicle tyre while the inner wall 15 is of elastic rubber sheet. The sleeves 31, 32 can be folded and then clamped between rollers 40, 41 which can be pressed together by cams mounted in a flanged upper member 30 serving to clamp the outer wall to the spider 25. The rollers 40, 41 are held captive by fabric aprons 45, 46, and are rubber-covered; shoulders near their ends locate the sleeves laterally. Both sleeves 31, 32 are of elastic rubber sheet, the inner end of the sleeve 31 being vulcanized, and the inner end of the sleeve 32 being reinforced by a fabric outer cover 36 (Fig. 6, not shown). Folds may be moulded in the outer sleeve to facilitate its folding above the inner sleeve when pressed flat. The bottom closure member 8 includes an air-inlet valve 62 (Fig. 2, not shown) comprising a rubber insert which can be pushed within an aperture 63 in the bottom member 8 to admit air when the bag is to be emptied. A groove 69 adjacent one of the flanges 65 of the rubber plug facilitates pulling the plug back into sealing position. Wire beads 6, 7 reinforce the outer wall where it is clamped at top and bottom. The inner wall 15 may be formed by being pressed into a surrounding mould by an expansible air bag within it. The wall is preferably thicker at the end 19 than at the end 15. The bag can be lifted by eyes in its top flange member 30, or by a bottom ring 11.
