Abstract

101,755. Neil, J. Oct. 7, 191 Mechanical telegraphs ; mine and colliery signals.-Relates to cancelling-means for colliery and the like signalling-appliances such as are described in Specification 14193/15. Two types of device are set forth, one for cancelling one signal, and the other for cancelling two signals in succession. Various modifications of the first type are described, all governorball actuated. Fig. 1 shows a trip roller 12 drawn along by the governor sleeve 2 to engage a similar roller 12 on a lever 8 connected at each end by chains 10 to a rod 11 joined by flexible connexions to the indicator mechanism. Thus, on the starting and stopping of the engine, the lever 8 is actuated and the rod 11 pulled to cancel each signal made. Fig. 3 shows a form in which a clutch disk 16 at first turns a loose disk 15 and so cancels the signal by a flexible connexion to a projection 14, the disk 16 then leaving the disk 15 and running free until the engine slows down, when the disks again contact and the signal is cancelled. To ensure that the disks shall remain in contact with one an. other for a sufficient interval, they may be arranged horizontally so that the disk 15 falls with the disk 16 till stopped by a collar on the vertical shaft 4. Fig. 6 shows a form in which a projection 17 on the rotating disk 16 contacts with a roller on the end of a lever 18 at the beginning and end of the wind. In Fig. 8, the disk 16 is shown with two notches 19 which engage a spring plunger pin 20 carried by a counterweighted lever 21 pivoted at 22 to a bracket 23 loosely mounted on the shaft 4. A spring-controlled lever 25, with a fork 27 embracing a neck 28 on the bracket 23, is attached at its other end to the signaling-connexion to ensure that the pin 20 will be in proper position before the start of a wind. Fig. 10 shows a device of the second type. The initial and final rotation of the shaft 34 causes a tooth 37 to strike a tooth 40 and oscillate a counterweighted cross-lever 38, which has its ends joined by flexible connexions to a slidable block 42 connected to the indicator. As the engine gains speed, governor blocks 3 fly outwards against the action of springs 31 and draw the shaft 34 along till a collar 52 thereon strikes against a roller 51 on a lever 46, so pulling a slidable block 50 and cancelling the " men " signal.
