[Also in Division H2] In apparatus for lifting loads at multiple points by means of multiple winches 2, 3, 4, 5, Fig. 6, driven from a single main motor, the winches have differential drives with additional inputs from auxiliary motors for maintaining the load level. A T-shaped member, to which the load is attached, is supported at its extremities by the winch cables 39, 40, 45, and carries level detectors 36, 37 (see Division H2). The winches are driven from a single main motor (not shown) which drives worm shafts engaging a pair of worm-wheels 8, 9, Fig. 2. The worm-wheel 9 directly drives a single drum 4 or a pair of drums 4, 5 on a single shaft for connection by cables 45 to the extremities of the longitudinal arm 35 2 . The worm-wheel 8 drives a pair of winches 2, 3 through intermediate differential gears 26 having external worm-wheels 28, 32 driven from the auxiliary motors 30, 33 through worm shafts 29. Cables 39, 40 attached to the winches 2, 3 are connected to the extremities of the transverse member 35 1 . The arrangement is such that while the main motor drives all the winches simultaneously the winches 2, 3 may be driven independently from the auxiliary motors 30, 33 to maintain the load level under the control of the level detectors 36, 37.
