In a cascade voltage multiplier arrangement in which a series of rectifier units 1, 2, 3 are provided, and each pair of rectifier units is bridged by a capacitor unit comprising a chain of series connected capacitors 6, 7, 8, 9 &c., the junction between adjacent rectifier units (say 19) is connected to the junction between the series capacitors of the corresponding capacitor unit (say 18) through a resistor (say 12). The arrangement provides a more uniform voltage distribution. Each rectifier unit may comprise two or more series-connected diodes.
