Abstract
1,027,856. Smoothing direct current. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIC VED. June 29, 1964 [July 27, 1963], No. 26793/64. Heading H2F. In order to smooth the output of a high voltage rectifying and multiplying circuit (shown diagrammatically by a valve 2 and capacitor 5) obtained across a smoothing capacitor 3 between a high voltage terminal 17 and earth 18, the earth lead includes a parallel combination of resistor 7 and variable capacitor 6 in series with a variable resistor 8. These features, with the capacitor 5 (which includes the self-capacitances of the rectifying elements) and the capacitor 4 which comprises the stray capacitance of the rectifier to earth constitute an A.C. bridge (somewhat like a Schering bridge) for the ripple current, and adjustment is made to balance the bridge so as to provide no ripple across the diagonal 17, 18. Fig. 2 (not shown), discloses the bridge circuit showing in greater detail the various stray capacitances which may arise.
