Abstract

1,021,914. Smoothing D.C. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. July 23, 1963, No. 29079/63. Heading H2F. A D.C. smoothing circuit which includes a capacitor 23 which exhibits inherent resistance and inductance as well as capacitance (e.g. an electrolytic capacitor) is provided with a series resistor 22, the voltage across which is utilized in minimizing the ripple voltage. As shown in Fig. 1, the capacitor 23 having capacitance C inductance LC and resistance RC is connected in series with a resistor 22 having inherent inductance 24. A primary winding 28 of transformer is connected across the resistor 22, the secondary winding 29 of this transformer being in series with the capacitor 23 across output terminals. The turns ratio of the transformer is equal to the ratio of the resistor 22 to the resistance RC. Ripple is thereby reduced. In determining the turns ratio account may also be taken of the inductances 24 and LC.
