Abstract
Cycloaliphatic oximes are prepared by adding nitrosyl chloride up to a 1 to 2% concentration to the corresponding cycloalkane in the presence of an inert solvent and hydrogen chloride, treating the resulting mixture with such an amount of 70 to 96% sulphuric acid as to produce a molar ratio of sulphuric acid to oxime of between 1: 1 and 3 : 1, irradiating the resulting mixture with actinic light with vigorous stirring at a temperature of between -30 DEG and +30 DEG C., and separating the sulphuric acid layer containing the oxime. Examples describe the preparation of cyclohexanone and cyclododecanone oximes.
