Sept. 22, 1915, [Convention date] Portable receptacles provided with liquid - pumps. - A fire-extinguisher of the syringe type comprises a reservoir 3 for the liquid in which is mounted, preferably at the top, a double - acting syringe 6 connected by a chamber 11 to the outlet nozzle 5. The piston 20 is slidably mounted on a tube 12 connected to a reciprocable rod 14. The tube has two sets of ports 18, 19, and the piston carries a sleeve 21 adapted to cover and uncover the ports alternately. The relative movement of the piston on the tube is limited by stops 15, 22. Liquid is drawn into the syringe through the pipes 23', 24, 25 and valves 8<1>, 9<1>, and is discharged through the ports 18, 19, and tube 20 into the pressure chamber 11, from which it passes to the nozzle 5. The pipes 23<1>, 24, 25 are pivotally mounted in the inlets 8, 9, so that the pipe 23' is always at the bottom of the container, and gravity valves 20, 30 are provided to prevent air from entering the syringe when the apparatus is inclined. A disk on the stop 22 has a flange 32 engaging a recess in the end wall of the syringe to prevent leakage when the apparatus is suspended by the handle.
