1,015,070. Cleaning spinning-machines. E. JACOBI and H. BECK [trading as ERNST JACOBI & CO., K. G]. Nov. 12, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 46113/64. Heading D1F. [Also in Division F4] Travelling pneumatic cleaning apparatus for ring spinning machinery comprises a carriage 14 mounted on rails 13,13<SP>1</SP> having depending from it blowing hoses 19, 19<SP>1</SP>, with associated nozzles 20, 20<SP>1</SP>, communicating with pressure chambers 18, 18<SP>1</SP> within the carriage, and suction hoses 21, with nozzles 22, communicating with a suction chamber 17 within the carriage, said chambers being connected by means of expandable pipes 31, 32 to a fan-filter unit 24, fixed at one end of the frame 11. The unit 24 is divided into pressure and suction chambers 26, 27 by a filter wall 25, the pressure chamber 26 being provided with a fan 28 and connected to the blowing hoses 19,19<SP>1</SP> by the pipe 31, and the suction chamber 27 to the suction hoses 21 by the pipe 32. The carriage is moved to and fro over the length of the frame by means of an endless cable 33 passing over pulleys 34, 34<SP>1</SP> adjacent the ends of the frame; said pulleys may be driven from the frame or by a separate electric motor. Alternatively, the carriage may be moved by means of the air pressure or suction generated by the fan 28. Dust laden air is drawn in through hoses 21 and pipe 32, is filtered at the wall 25 and is blown out again through the pipe 31 and hoses 19,19<SP>1</SP>. The apparatus may be applied to several adjacent frames, the pipes 31, 32 being connected to pressure and suction channels, Fig. 3 (not shown). The fan-filter unit may be suspended above the frame or frames in which case the expandable pipes are connected to the top of the carriage, Fig. 6 (not shown). The expandable pipes may be of concertina-type construction, or made up of a plurality of telescopic tubes, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown). The filtered air may be subsequently heated, cooled and/or humidified.
