Abstract

925,932. Cleaning spinning-machines. JOH. JACOB RIETER & CIE A.G. Sept. 21, 1960 [Sept. 25, 1959], No. 32457/60. Class 120 (3). A spinning - machine comprises suction duct means having inlet slots 7 and upright portions 5; a horizontal duct 10 extending longitudinally of the machine and in which the portions 5 terminate; fans 9 to draw air through the suction duct means to deliver it to the duct 10 which has perforated walls permitting the escape of air therethrough but retaining threads, fly and dust therein; a carriage 17 mounted on and movable lengthwise of the duct 10 and including means 17<SP>1</SP> to cover the perforated walls to impede air flow therethrough; and means 19 for moving the carriage 17 along the duct 10 to periodically interrupt the pressure of the thread &c. against the walls thereof by the escaping air to promote flow of air and the thread &c. inside the duct 10. Plates 11 divert air and thread &c. longitudinally of the duct 10, one end of which terminates in a duct 12 which delivers the thread &c. to a removable container 13. The carriage 17 runs on rails 14, 15, Fig. 3 (not shown), and is pulled along the duct 10 by an endless belt 19 to which a dog 20 slidable in a slot 22 in a wall 21 of the carriage is attached. In a modification, Fig. 4, the carriage is driven by an air propeller 29 on each side thereof. Abutments 31, 33 limit the angular movement of a rod 30 extending from each propeller 29. The carriage is reversed at each end of the duct 10 by the rod 30 striking an abutment 32. Current may be supplied to the motor 28 driving the propeller 29 through rails 14, 15. The carriage may include hinged flaps 35 to direct air on to bobbins 3.
