Abstract

The wall 22 at a corner of a container has welded to it a collar 26 providing a groove 38 into which are sprung concentric rings 44, 46 carrying a rupturable diaphragm 40, a cover 48 carrying a plug 62 being screwed into the collar 26 to protect the diaphragm. In order to discharge the contents of the container, the cover 48 is removed and a coupling member 76 placed round the collar, cams 30 being retracted. As the cams are rotated in contact with a groove 28 on the collar, a cutter 82 pierces the diaphragm. Alternatively, a narrower pouring orifice may be obtained by screwing in an adaptor, Fig. 7 (not shown), in place of the plug 62. A ring screwed on to the lower end of the adaptor secures the end flange of a discharge pipe; as the ring is screwed home a cutter ruptures the diaphragm.
