Abstract

1,014,209. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. G. NIEMOLLER, Sept. 28, 1964 [Sept. 28, 1963], No. 39503/64. Heading B8A. A pivoted tube 5 for switching paths to alternative despatch tubes 3, 4 in a pneumatic despatch system is actuated by magnetic fields in such manner that it is initially withdrawn axially to break the sealed connection with the sealing surface 7 and is then moved sideways to the alternative position. Magnets or electromagnets 12, 13, 14 are arranged at the sealed connections and when the route is to be switched the polarities of the adjacent magnets as at 13, 14 are changed electrically to be in opposition so that the tube 5 is thrust axially against its spring-loaded pivoted joint 6. The polarities of one of the magnets (as at 12, 14) is also changed so that the tube 5 is then drawn towards the position opposite the tube 3. The tube 5 may carry a roller 19 engageable with a guide surface 18 having recesses 18a for the roller 19 at each station whereby the tube 5 is held away from contact with the sealing surface 7 while moving between stations. Spring-loaded end stops 16, are also provided.
