Abstract

1421542 Clamps P R GODDARD ENGS LTD 13 Sept 1973 [14 June 1972] 27837/72 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] In a method of placing a sleeve around a pipeline 1, at least two clamping devices 2 having ball or roller bearing support members 5 with balls or rollers 7 mounted thereon, are secured around the pipe, a part section of cylindrical sleeving 3 is lowered to one side of the pipeline and is slid under the pipeline in contact with the balls or rollers 7, a further part-section of cylindrical sleeving is lowered on to the clamping devices and into contact with balls or rollers 7 and the two part-sections are welded together. The two part-sections may be slid around the pipeline on the balls or rollers 7 so that the respective edges to be welded are uppermost when being welded. Additionally, end guides for the part sections (11, Fig. 6, not shown) may also be clamped to the pipeline and these guides may also inconporate ball or roller bearing surfaces. After forming the sleeve around the pipeline it can be slid longitudinally thereof on similar supporting devices. Electrical insulation may be provided between the rollers and balls of the support members and the clamping means and between the guiding member and their clamping means.
