Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In an apparatus in which descending water streams are cooled by contact with an upwardly flowing air stream, the trickle plates 6 over which the water flows have an attached or integral adjoining portion 3 located above the water-contacted trickle portion and having ribs 9 for trapping water droplets entrained in the air, and baffle members 12 on which the droplets collect and ultimately form large drops which fall back into the apparatus, the plate portions 3 including means for supplying water to the trickle portion of the plate. Such means may, as shown, comprise an apertured conduit formed by interfitting pipe sections 2 formed integral with the plate. These interfitting pipe sections also serve as plate spacing means. Alternatively the plate may be shaped to receive a separate apertured conduit or an open-topped apertured channel 10, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
