Abstract

1,012,568. Purifying exhaust gases. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Nov. 4, 1963 [Sept. 7, 1962], No. 34308/62. Heading FIB. In an after-burner for purifying the exhaust gases, the wall of the combustion chamber has metal projections 14 which ensure that ignition is maintained. The after burner is similar to that described in Specification 1,008,663, the exhaust gases entering at 2, flowing over the combustion chamber 4 and through passages 7a to chamber 5 through which they flow into the chamber 4 after mixing with air admitted through pipes 12. The ignition is initiated by spark plug 13 and the burnt gases escape through pipes 9 and flow to the outlet 3 through passages alternating with the passages 7a. The projections 14 may be of a nickel steel alloy and may be secured to the chamber wall or formed as ribs thereon.
